 Avoiding Online Credit Card Fraud
Wary about online credit card purchases?

There are bargains to be had shopping online and frequently many "hard to find" are easily located on the internet, but whilst credit cards are already quite safe to use online, there are some simple techniques available to make it even safer.

Firstly, always make sure your using a website protected with 128 bit encryption. You can tell quite easily if the website you are using is protected, firstly the website address with begin with "https" in lieu of "http", and secondly by the appearance of a padlock within your browser.

As an additional precaution you could apply to your bank for another credit card with a suitable limit for any online purchases you may wish to make. For our example we'll use $200.00.

When your card is ready to use immediately transfer $190.00 from your new credit card to another account, leaving an available balance of only $10.00.

When you decide to make your online purchase, eg. $55.00, access your online banking service, transfer $55.00 to your new credit card, then make your purchase leaving the remaining balance again only $10.00.

Should any fraudulent activity occur with your new credit card the maximum amount you could lose is $10.00.
